I'm sure most would hope for some kind of an update utilizing that area before GW2 comes out, but at this time that doesn't seem very likely

I asked the same or at least a similar question in Druid's Overlook.

My question was who or what could be living there in GW2.

That's about one fourth of the entire map wasted right there. I do hope they come out with something interesting. I'm not as much interested in the island as I am the river basin though. I want to see what's there.

I predict the unused area will be another Sorrows Furnace type area. You heard it here first folks.

my suspicion is there is along time between now and gw2 releases plenty of time for ppl to get bored and move on, they have to have a sorrows furnace type update in future to keep interest alive in gw or this game will be long gone by time gw2 releases.

that would be my feeling as well...though deep in the pit of my stomach I feel that gw is done--no more updates etc ---that would be sad since there is so much more than CAN do with what is already there, so here's hoping that I am wrong (and that it is just something I ate bothering the pit of my stomach).

Only problem with the "nothing more for GW1 as we are all working very hard on GW2" is i can see a "nothing more for GW2 as we are all working very hard on GW3" coming in a few years

I'm sure there will be some sort of add-on for that area, it's just too large an area to remain empty.

Oddly enough, the prediction that "GW will be dead soon," has been prophesied here many, many times, starting at least 2 years ago. Yet, there are more players than ever and the player base is getting larger every day.

That extra 1/4 of map i don't think will be used in GW1 , however it has been stated in magazines and such (even hinted in various ways too) that GW2 will be using the same map as tyria currently. It may not be "the" same map, but i can almost guarentee you (aside from outposts) that it will look the same.

Gaile said yesterday that another SF type update was most likely not going to happen.

More than that it you add it up. There are large chunks all over the map not being used. if you started totaling them up there is more area not uses than is.

But i do wish the would add something new in the area.

Well SF was free so I dont expect that, but I would pay a small fee if they made some of these areas usable.

As much as I would like to see more areas and content it seems ANet dosen't really want to commit to adding more content at this point.

Idk, I don't think GW1 will die before GW2 comes out however I get the feeling that most of the "veteran" players playing now (played the game about 6 months or more) will be gone by the time GW2 launches. Unless ANet can give us some kind of timeline for the launch of GW2 they run the risk of losing a considerable amount of their current playerbase if they really are serious about not adding any more expansions, SF style updates, or BMP type content.

Hope I'm wrong, I really wanna go exploring up in that quarter of the map!

No it isn't. Orr is South of Kryta, not North of it... Heck, we've known that since Prophecies was relatively new, and now we even have a Dungeon running underneath what "remains" of Orr.
